Agents must close branches warns Ministry of Housing

Despite letting agents voicing concerns that they need to keep their businesses open to look after elderly tenants and organise emergency repairs, a senior civil servant has expressed the view that they are not essential services and should therefore close immediately.

Until the lockdown announcement on Monday of this week, property viewings for rental properties had been continuing. However the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government has issued the directive that all in-person viewings, routine inspections and house moves must stop. The Ministry is still deciding whether maintenance tasks such as gas safety checks will be allowed.
